Where each format is used
The 24-hour clock avoids the AM and PM labels altogether, which is why timetables, hospitals, the military and most computer systems use it. The 12-hour clock is the everyday spoken form in the United States and several other countries. When you copy a time from one into the other, the two places to slow down are midnight (00:00, 12 AM) and noon (12:00, 12 PM).

How do I convert 24-hour time to 12-hour time?
From 13:00 to 23:59, subtract 12 from the hour and add PM: 18:45 is 6:45 PM. From 01:00 to 11:59, keep the hour and add AM. The hour 00 becomes 12 AM and the hour 12 stays 12 PM.
Is 12:00 PM noon or midnight?
12:00 PM is noon and 12:00 AM is midnight. In 24-hour time they are 12:00 and 00:00. Because the 12-hour labels are easy to mix up, timetables often write “12 noon” and “12 midnight” instead.
