How weight units fit together
The kilogram is the base unit; grams and milligrams are a thousandth and a millionth of it, and a metric ton is 1,000 kilograms. The pound used in the United States and the United Kingdom is defined from the kilogram: 1 pound is exactly 0.45359237 kg. The other everyday units hang off the pound. An ounce is 1/16 of a pound (28.349523125 g), a stone is 14 pounds and a US short ton is 2,000 pounds.
That makes pounds to kilograms an exact multiplication, while kilograms to pounds is a division by 0.45359237, which gives a decimal that never ends (2.2046226218…). The converters keep the exact fraction and round only what is displayed, so you do not inherit the small error of a multiplier such as 2.2 or 2.205.
Results in pounds are also shown as pounds and ounces, and results in stones as stones and pounds, because that is how those units are normally spoken: 70 kg is 154.32 lb and also 11 st 0.3 lb.
Two things to watch. “Ounce” on this page means the weight ounce, not the fluid ounce, which is a volume and belongs with the cooking conversions. And “ton” has three meanings: the converter lists the US short ton, the UK long ton and the metric ton separately. Turning a weight into a volume, such as milligrams into milliliters, needs the density of the substance; use milligrams to milliliters for that.

How many pounds are in a kilogram?
About 2.20462. The exact relationship is the other way round: 1 pound is defined as 0.45359237 kilogram.
How many grams are in an ounce?
Exactly 28.349523125 grams, because an ounce is 1/16 of a pound. Rounded for the kitchen that is 28.35 g.
What is a stone?
A stone is 14 pounds, which is exactly 6.35029318 kg. It is used in the UK and Ireland for body weight, usually together with pounds: 70 kg is 11 st 0.3 lb.
How heavy is a ton?
It depends which one. A US short ton is 2,000 lb (907.1847 kg), a UK long ton is 2,240 lb (1,016.047 kg) and a metric ton is 1,000 kg (2,204.623 lb).
