How to convert millimeters to meters

meters = millimeters ÷ 1,000

1 millimeter is one thousandth of a meter (SI prefix milli, 10⁻³). The meter is the SI base unit of length.

The factor is exact in both directions: 1 mm = 0.001 m and 1 m = 1,000 mm. Nothing is rounded until you choose how many decimals to show.

Worked example: 1,234 mm

1. Start with the value in millimeters: 1,234 mm.
2. Divide by 1,000, because 1 meter = 1,000 millimeters: 1,234 ÷ 1,000 = 1.234 m.
