How to convert pints to quarts

quarts = pints ÷ 2

1 US liquid pint is 1/8 US gallon (28.875 cubic inches). 1 US liquid quart is 1/4 US gallon (57.75 cubic inches).

The factor is exact in both directions: 1 pt = 0.5 qt and 1 qt = 2 pt. Nothing is rounded until you choose how many decimals to show.

Worked example: 3 pt

1. Start with the value in pints: 3 pt.
2. Divide by 2, because 1 quart = 2 pints: 3 ÷ 2 = 1.5 qt.

The same in the US and imperial systems

A quart is two pints in both systems, so this conversion does not depend on which pint you have. What differs is the size of the units themselves: a US pint is 473.18 mL and an imperial pint is 568.26 mL.
