Square Inch Calculator

Area = length × width

This calculator multiplies the two numbers you enter — no conversion, no unit changes, just rectangular area. A standard US Letter sheet measures 8.5 in by 11 in, so entering those values returns Area: 93.50 square inches. A 12 in × 12 in floor tile returns 144.00 square inches — exactly 1 square foot, since 12 × 12 = 144 is the same 144 used as the conversion factor on the square inches to square feet page.

What the two input fields actually validate

Both fields are checked with isNaN() and a negative-number guard: blank or non-numeric input returns "Please enter valid numbers", and a negative length or width returns "Measurements cannot be negative". Zero is allowed and correctly returns an area of 0.00 — useful for confirming the tool works before you enter real dimensions.

Rectangles and squares only

The formula length × width only gives a correct answer for rectangles (a square is just a rectangle with equal sides). For a circle, triangle, or any non-rectangular shape, this result will be wrong — circular area needs π × r², triangular area needs ½ × base × height. If you're measuring an irregular room or panel, break it into rectangular sections and sum the individual areas from this tool.
