Percent to Decimal Calculator

The formula

"Percent" literally means "per hundred," so converting a percentage to a decimal means dividing by 100. The calculator takes your input and divides it by 100 directly — no rounding, since dividing by 100 just shifts the decimal point two places left.

Worked example

Enter 37 and the tool returns 37% = 0.37. Enter 8.5 and you get 8.5% = 0.085. Enter 150 (percentages over 100 are valid) and you get 150% = 1.5.

Why this conversion matters

Decimal form is what spreadsheet formulas, programming languages, and financial calculations actually expect — multiplying a price by "20%" directly gives the wrong answer in most software; you need 0.20. A $50 item with a 20% discount is calculated as 50 × 0.20 = $10 off, not 50 × 20.

Going the other way

To convert a decimal back to a percentage, multiply by 100 instead: 0.37 × 100 = 37%. The two operations are exact inverses of each other.
