Nm to Ft-lbs Converter

The conversion factor

A Newton-meter (Nm) and a foot-pound (ft-lb) both measure torque, but they're built from different unit systems. One Nm equals 0.7375621 ft-lbs, so the tool multiplies your input: ft-lbs = Nm × 0.7375621.

Worked example: a lug nut spec

Many passenger-car lug nuts are torqued to around 100 Nm. Enter 100 and the tool returns 73.76 ft-lbs (100 × 0.7375621 = 73.75621, rounded to two decimals) — the figure you'd need if your torque wrench is calibrated in foot-pounds instead of Newton-meters.

50 Nm36.88 ft-lbs
100 Nm73.76 ft-lbs
150 Nm110.63 ft-lbs

Why this matters for wrenches

Mixing up the two units when torquing bolts is a real (and common) mistake — a torque wrench set to "100" reads very differently depending on whether it's calibrated in Nm or ft-lbs, and over- or under-torquing fasteners has real mechanical consequences. Always confirm which unit your wrench and your spec sheet use before setting a value.
