Milliliters to Teaspoons Converter: Quick and Friendly Results

Which teaspoon this uses

This calculator divides by 4.93, the volume in milliliters of a US teaspoon (4.92892 mL, rounded to 4.93 in the code). That's different from the metric teaspoon used in some nutrition labeling and Australian/UK recipes, which is defined as exactly 5 mL. The gap is small per teaspoon but adds up in recipes calling for several — a US recipe converted with a metric-teaspoon assumption will be off by about 1.4% per teaspoon.

Worked example

15 mL (roughly one US tablespoon) ÷ 4.93 = 3.04 teaspoons — consistent with the standard kitchen conversion of 3 teaspoons per tablespoon, with the extra 0.04 coming from the rounded 4.93 factor rather than 4.92892.

Reading the result

The result is rounded to two decimal places. For cooking, round to the nearest common measuring-spoon fraction (¼, ½, ¾, or whole teaspoons) rather than trying to measure 3.04 teaspoons precisely — most kitchen spoon sets don't have that granularity. For lab or pharmacy contexts where precision matters, use milliliters directly with a graduated syringe instead of a teaspoon.
