Liters to Cubic Inches Converter: Fast and Simple

The conversion factor

A liter is defined as exactly 1000 cubic centimeters. Since 1 cubic inch = 16.387064 cm³, dividing 1000 by 16.387064 gives the factor this tool uses: 1 liter ≈ 61.0237 cubic inches. The multiplication is cubic inches = liters × 61.0237.

Worked example

Enter 2 liters and the tool returns 122.0474 cubic inches (2 × 61.0237 = 122.0474). The result is displayed to four decimal places, more precision than the two-decimal rounding used on most of this site's other volume converters.

Where this comes up

Engine displacement is the most common use case — American engines are often specified in cubic inches (e.g. the classic "350" or "454" V8s) while most of the world specs engines in liters. A 5.7-liter engine, for reference, works out to roughly 347.8 cubic inches (5.7 × 61.0237).

Precision note

61.0237 is itself a rounded value — the exact factor to more decimal places is 61.023744..., so results at very large liter values will drift slightly from a full-precision calculation. For everyday volume conversions the difference is negligible.
