Inch to Feet Converter: A Quick Fix for Your Length Problems

The math

Since 1 foot equals 12 inches, converting the other direction means dividing by 12: feet = inches ÷ 12. The result is rounded to two decimal places, so most conversions won't land on a clean whole number.

Worked example

A 18-inch strip of trim: 18 ÷ 12 = 1.5 feet exactly. A less clean case — 50 inches ÷ 12 = 4.1666..., which the tool displays as 4.17 feet. Because 12 doesn't divide evenly into most numbers, expect a decimal remainder more often than not; if you need the leftover in whole inches rather than a decimal fraction (4 feet 2 inches instead of 4.17 feet), you'll need to convert the decimal portion back: 0.17 × 12 ≈ 2 inches.

When this direction matters
