Hours to Minutes Converter

The math

An hour contains 60 minutes, so the conversion is a single multiplication: minutes = hours × 60. This calculator accepts decimals, so partial hours convert cleanly too.

Worked examples

2.5 hours (a common meeting-block or flight-duration figure) converts to 2.5 × 60 = 150 minutes. A quarter hour, 0.25, converts to 0.25 × 60 = 15 minutes. A full workday, 7.5 hours, converts to 7.5 × 60 = 450 minutes.

Converting the other direction with decimals

Timesheets and payroll systems often store time as decimal hours (7.75) rather than hours:minutes (7h 45m). To go from a decimal-hour figure back to minutes past the hour, take just the fractional part and multiply by 60 — 0.75 × 60 = 45 minutes, confirming 7.75 hours = 7 hours 45 minutes = 465 minutes total.

Where this comes up

Converting a timesheet's decimal-hour entries into a minutes-based scheduling tool, checking how many minutes a flight or commute duration listed in hours actually represents, or converting workout or meeting durations for apps that log time in minutes rather than hours.
