What it computes

The calculator divides numerator by denominator with plain floating-point division — no rounding is applied. Enter 3 and 8 and it shows 3 / 8 = 0.375 (a terminating decimal, since 8 is a power of two). Enter 1 and 3 instead and it shows 1 / 3 = 0.3333333333333333 — JavaScript's full 17-significant-digit float representation of a repeating decimal, not a rounded approximation.

Edge cases the tool handles

A denominator of 0 returns "Cannot divide by zero" instead of Infinity or NaN. Non-numeric input in either field returns "Please enter valid numbers." Negative numerators or denominators work normally — -3 / 4 returns -0.75.

Fractions that produce long decimals

Any fraction whose denominator (in lowest terms) has a prime factor other than 2 or 5 produces a repeating decimal in the output rather than a clean, short one — 1/3, 1/6, 1/7, and 1/9 are common examples. If you need a rounded, human-readable figure rather than the full float string, you'll want to truncate the result yourself (e.g. to 2-4 decimal places).
