Division Calculator

This calculator returns the exact quotient of two numbers (numerator ÷ denominator) as a decimal, using JavaScript's native floating-point division — it doesn't truncate or round the result on its own.

Worked example

17 ÷ 5 = 3.4. Enter 17 as the numerator and 5 as the denominator to see this: the calculator doesn't stop at the whole-number quotient (3) the way a long-division answer with "remainder" would — it carries the division through to a decimal.

Division that doesn't terminate cleanly

Some divisions produce repeating decimals — 10 ÷ 3 = 3.3333333333333335 due to how floating-point numbers are stored, not a display bug. Division by zero

Entering 0 as the denominator returns "Cannot divide by zero" rather than a numeric result — division by zero is undefined, not just large, so the calculator flags it instead of returning Infinity.
