The math behind it

Volume in cubic inches is length × width × height, with all three dimensions measured in inches. A box measuring 12 in long, 10 in wide, and 8 in tall holds 12 × 10 × 8 = 960 cubic inches. Enter those three numbers into the fields above and the calculator returns the same 960.

Converting to other volume units

Cubic inches show up most often in engine displacement, shipping box specs, and small storage containers. To convert the result: divide by 231 for US gallons (960 ÷ 231 ≈ 4.16 gal), divide by 1,728 for cubic feet (960 ÷ 1,728 ≈ 0.56 cu ft), or multiply by 16.387 for cubic centimeters (960 × 16.387 ≈ 15,731 cc).

A note on units

All three input fields must be in inches for the result to be correct — mixing units (say, entering height in centimeters) will silently produce a wrong number, since the calculator has no way to detect the unit you meant. If your measurements are in feet or centimeters, convert them to inches first.
